Gogol Bordello hardly bluegrass

Saw Gogol Bordello in Golden gate park today at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival.

Its definitely the most I've seen anyone in SF dance at a concert! In general, the crowds here are even more sedate than NY concert goers.

Gogol is rowdy. Go see them, dance hard, and drink much wine before, after, and during.

MSTRKRFT delivers

Saw MSTRKRFT last night at the Mezzanine, and man can these guys bring the crazy beats. I'm amazed that they sound so much better live than on their albums, and I love how they chaned things up.

They really took this show up a notch with spastic video (a wall of TVs), and really really bright lights.

The highlight was when they remixed The Presets' -My People!

Jamie Lidell @ Filmore

Two nights ago I saw Jamie Lidell at the Filmore. I had high expectations after seeing hime 3 times previously, but the sound was off and he might have been too (more so than usual). Something was wrong with the bass.

Janelle MonĂ¡e opened, and totally caught me off guard. Definitely a new type of high-energy beat drive guitar rocked show for me, and boy could she freakin sing (and dance/fraggle)!

Who is "Main Street"?

The continual reference to Main Street has been driving me crazy, so I was excited when I heard this on NPR.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95251612

A listener calls in and says:

"Main Street already went bust, remember the big box stores and suburban sprawl"

The listener then goes on to suggest some alternatives:

Wall Street and Your Street

Wall Street and Mall Street

I agree, there's no main street any more. Its a strip mall that you have to drive to from your 30,000 ft home in your 300ft Hummer.
