A weekend of festivals

From innocent all the way to very scandalous, this was the weekend of many festivals.

1) The local private (elementary?) school had a festival on my street, so the whole street was reserved Sat. and Sun. What a pain for parking

Blue, my roommate's dog, spent the whole weekend barking and terrifying little kids.

2) The greek festival at Valencia and 15th. Lots and lots of food and costumes. We wanted to join in the dancing but were promptly thrown out.

3) The Folsom st festival. Its a bondage/S&M type thing that takes over a chunk of SOMA. Scary stuff. Though seeing the Presets (an aussie electro and rock band) for free was definitely worth it! Especially considering I'm seeing them again in a week with Cut Copy.

More pics to come, after some censorship, but in the meantime the only one I have is of the Presets on stage rockin his signature pink jacket.

Learning about finances

I've never been much for spending too much time on the financial markets, but between all the bailout conversations and the failure of my bank (WAMU, though they were acquired right away and business is supposed to be "as usual" tomorrow), I've decided to pay a bit more attention.

I'll try to post the better stuff as I come across it, but here's a good pice on "what to do with your money":

Part two of the Treasure Island Music Festival

So, after the first post there was another 6+ hours of music to been seen!

It definitely got a lot more crowded, and the afternoon highlights
included The Dodos, Vampire Weekend, The Kills, and The Raconteurs.

Vampire Weekend was true to form, and just played a killer live set.
His voice really set them apart from the rest of the bands.

The Kills were the only band that managed to wake me up. The lead
singer was vicious, and those guitar rifts almost knocked me over.
Very impressive stuff...until I saw the next band.

Now, I've got to preface this by saying I don't even really like this
band, but when the Raconteurs came on stage I was in awww of their
rock skillz. We'd been watching amateurs all day, and these guys
looked, sounded, and felt like they did this full time. Very
impressive stuff. Blue Viens in particular.
